TMJ Treatments
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the area that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull (temporal bone) in front of the ear. When a person presents a problem in this area he/ she can
experience head and neck pain, facial pain, ear pain, headaches, a jaw that is locked in position or difficult to open, problems or popping sounds when biting and jaw clicking.
TMJ syndrome can be caused by many factors, such as, trauma, wear and tear due to aging, diseases or habits like teeth grinding or clenching.
Most treatments for TMJ symptoms are simple and only a small percent of patients with TMJ problems need surgery. The most severe cases may require treatment with splints, mouth guards or other traditional forms of therapy. However, joint surgery is an option for advanced cases and when the diagnosis indicates a specific problem in the joint. After a series of tests and x-rays, our dentists
in Woodland Hills will advise the best treatment for your particular case.
